Dear Mom and Dad

Parenthood was something you looked forward to, something you knew you would do well at, something you dreamed of becoming. And when it was difficult to achieve, you cried.

You and Dad waited, hoped, and carried that dream between you, until I became your daughter. Then parenthood brought you things you might not have been prepared for,…

A pre-teen who let you down, words that hurt. Mistakes and moments I would like to take back. I was growing, so were the two of you. But every difficult season you and Dad stood with me. Even when I struggled, even when I wandered, even when addiction took pieces of me that I didn’t know how to get back, you stayed.

You didn’t stop loving me. Didn’t stop believing there was a way back. You stood beside me until I overcame my addiction then you continued to rebuild your relationship with me. You showed me how immensely loved I am. Not through perfect moments, but through forgiveness. Through patience. Through showing up. And somewhere along the way, I realized something I had always known somewhere inside me: I love you too. More than the words- I know how to say now. I love you beyond words.
