Positive Note Gratitude

My mom and dad set aside so much of their lives to be present for my earliest moments. On the day my sister and I were adopted, they shared stories with us about those first days together. My mom was there with me while I was learning to crawl, while my dad left a tile job in Hawaii so he could come home and be with us. Knowing that they made those sacrifices to be there for us is something I will always treasure.

One of my favorite stories about my sister is from the time my parents were choosing her middle name and preparing to bring her home.

I especially love looking through the old photographs from the eighties—pictures of my mom and dad holding me on the couch, surrounded by their parents, and photographs from the nineties of me sitting there with my arms stretched out, holding my baby sister. Those were good times.

I’m also grateful for the siblings my family has helped me meet more recently. For a long time, I hoped there might be more siblings out there somewhere, and discovering those connections has been a beautiful and unexpected gift.

I am also grateful for my son and to still have grandmas in our life.

I feel incredibly blessed to have so many people in my life who support me, share their love with me, and remind me that family can grow in ways we never imagined.
